Types of Cement

Cement is one of the most important substances that are used in construction industry in fact it will not be wrong to mention here that cement and related products are the fundamental elements in any kind of project that are needed for getting stronger and resistant buildings or towers. From small cottages to tall and aggressive skyscrapers cement has its utility as well as value that can never be denied. The binding potential and power, which is present inside cement can’t be compared with anything else in fact it will not be wrong to mention here that without cement it is impossible to build even a small wall. In simple words cement can be best defined as binder that is commonly used in construction industry and it has its use in binding different materials. Cement that is used in the construction is better characterized as non-hydraulic or hydraulic in accordance with the capability of cement to set when water is added to it.

Hydraulic Cement does not set in underwater or in wet circumstances. It gets dried best in air by reacting with carbon dioxide and it can get attacked by stronger chemicals after getting set.

The most prominent example of this form of cement is Portland cement. It is known for its quality of developing adhesive characteristics because of chemical reactions between water and other different kinds of ingredients that are used in dry state. This particular chemical reaction leads to formation of mineral hydrates which are not soluble in water and also protected from attacks of chemicals. This permits hydraulic cement to set in wet conditions as well and when it attains solid form it also shows resistant towards chemical attacks. It is one of the most important products of modern building industry and is used extensively.

Types of cement

Rapid Hardening cement

This is one of the most commonly known forms of cement primarily used in the concrete for achieving a high proportion of initial development in comparison to use of Normal Cement. It is made using iron, calcium, alumina and silica in different proportions. Calcium Sulfate has been included in this cement because of gypsum’s addition for controlling the setting time.
